When integrating sales data into your ERP, what problems can it actually solve? What are the integration challenges?

The most direct value of integration is eliminating duplicate data entry: orders confirmed by sales don't need to be manually re-entered into ERP, reducing errors and accelerating processes. Finance can automatically trigger invoicing or reconciliation workflows based on order status, and production can view order demand in real time without waiting for sales to compile and send reports. Challenges typically fall into three categories: First, product codes and customer codes may not align between systems, requiring a mapping table. Second, ERP field definitions may not perfectly match front-end structures, requiring decisions on which data to sync and which to skip. Third, future field changes or version upgrades on either side require ongoing interface maintenance. We recommend factoring maintenance costs into your evaluation—integration is not a one-time setup.
