SMEs have limited resources. How do we judge whether now is the right time to implement digital transformation?

Several concrete indicators can help: First, your clients or suppliers are already using digital tools to interact with you, but you're still relying on email and Excel to organize information—this shows your efficiency gap is becoming visible. Second, there's at least one process in your company where errors or delays happen every month because 'we can't find the data' or 'we're confused about the version.' Third, when people transition out, much knowledge is 'only that person knows,' and things break when they leave. If you meet two of these criteria, not taking action now means costs are already happening. Limited resources are not a reason to wait, but rather a reason to choose the right starting point—begin with your most painful process, see results quickly, and use that to convince others to follow.
